Balayage is a hair colouring technique which comes from the French word meaning to sweep or to paint. This means that the hair colour is literally painted on your hair and is a really creative method of applying hair colour. It is a hair trend that has been popular for a while now as it gives the effect of naturally sun-kissed hair, and has been an A-list favourite for a few years now. Gisele is probably the most popular inspiration for this look. The overall effect is more natural than classic highlights and can be tailored to suit you. I fancied having a long overdue change and went for this technique. This is how my appointment went...

Firstly my hair was dry cut which allows the hairdresser to place the colour in keeping with the way your hair naturally falls, therefore, replicating the sun and enhancing your layers. The colour was then brushed on and each section was covered in cling film. It took about 20 minutes for the colour to develop. I then had my hair rinsed and a gloss applied to make the final colour super shiny and bring all the colours together. This was left on for about 30 minutes. Finally my hair was washed and dried. I was so excited to see the result. Below are the before, during and after shots. What do you think??
